HGT's 2012 Mock Draft 2.0

HGT’s 2012 Mock Draft 2.0

Mock Draft 2012

1. Miami – Andrew Luck QB Stanford – The Dolphins missed their best chance to win one, up 15 against Denver. After that it’s hard to see this team winning a game. But the good news is that they win the Suck for Luck contest and get a true franchise signal caller.

2. Indianapolis – Matt Kalil OT USC – I can’t see the Colts [...]

Browns Coaching Staff Must Bear Brunt of Criticism

Browns Coaching Staff Must Bear Brunt of Criticism

Cleveland actually isn’t in that bad of shape. They’re 2-3 whereas the last two seasons they never even came close to .500 ball. The defense is playing well and is improving. Even Colt McCoy has a 78 QB rating which, while nothing to brag about, is a big improvement over the single digit performances put up by Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn.

But let’s be honest, they have the look of a team that’s headed for another 6-10 or 5-11 season. A lot of fingers are being pointed but the blame falls firmly on the coaches.

Simply put they aren’t running the ball [...]

Browns a Surprise Team?

Browns a Surprise Team?

Cleveland is picked by some to be a surprise team in the AFC and by others like Skip Bayless and Andrew Perloff to finish bottom of the barrel. Can the Browns defy expectation? And if not who else is likely to be the AFC’s surprise team?

The reasons against the Browns: A questionable offensive line, a quarterback who [...]

Sports Analogy Film Critic: Super 8

Sports Analogy Film Critic: Super 8

Super 8 is an old school throwback, like Lombardi’s Packers, Al Davis’ Raiders, the Chuck Daley Pistons. Hmmm. Am I really going to compare a movie with Elle Fanning in a lead role to the Detroit Bad Boys? Nah. Super 8 is more like John Wooden’s UCLA Bruins; THAT kind of old school…

Sports Analogy Film Critic: X-Men First Class

Sports Analogy Film Critic: X-Men First Class

“X-Men: First Class” is a very fun movie that’s well worth the (ever increasing) price of admission. The biggest problem with it is something that plagues all the comic book movie franchises and the X-Franchise in particular; lack of patience. The X movies are like the most frustrating sports franchise you can think of. It’s [...]

Some Thoughts About LeBron Making it to the Finals from a Cleveland Perspective

Some Thoughts About LeBron Making it to the Finals from a Cleveland Perspective

First thought, “Damn it!” Second thought, “Damn it all!” Thoughts 3 through 25 are all in the same vein so I’ll skip ahead. Once anger subsides some other things become clearer. Skip Bayless Does Not Know What the Hell He’s Talking about: We’ve all suspected this for some time but now it’s obvious. His one [...]

What Does The Draft Say About Each Team Part 2

What Does The Draft Say About Each Team Part 2

OAKLAND – I am Al Davis, the great and powerful! Bow before me foolish mortals! Some day somebody is going to write a book about this period in Oakland’s history, Managing Al. That’s what the Oakland organization is all about now. Minimizing the damage of their Jon Gruden firing, Darius Heyward Bey drafting owner wrecks on the football team he claims to love. He loves it as long as it looks[...]

What Does The Draft Say About Each Team Part 1

What Does The Draft Say About Each Team Part 1

There’s a saying that goes “Tell me what you eat and I’ll tell you who you are.” For NFL teams it can be said “Tell me how you draft and I’ll tell you who you are.” Team identity is the key to the draft. Teams that know who they are do well, teams that don’t not so much. So what does each team’s draft say about each team.

CAROLINA – We’re bad! But worse than [...]

Browns Day 2 Knee Jerk Reaction

Browns Day 2 Knee Jerk Reaction

I knew it. I knew the Browns were going to double dip on the D Line just like they double dipped in the secondary last year. 2010 Cleveland takes Joe Haden and TJ Ward with their first two picks. 2011 it’s the defensive line that gets addressed with Phil Taylor and Jabaal Sheard taken with the Browns first two picks. The 2010 draft had a ton of DB prospects. This year it was a deep draft for D Linemen. Next year maybe the draft will be rich in linebackers or…

Browns 1st Round Knee Jerk Reaction

Browns 1st Round Knee Jerk Reaction

At first I said “Not another trade!” But I really approved when I found out what Atlanta gave up, the 27th pick, their 2nd and 4th round pick in this year’s draft AND their 1st and 4th pick in 2012. Getting that extra first rounder next year was huge. Compare this to the infamous Mark Sanchez trade where we gave away a franchise QB for essentially a bunch of role players, many of whom aren’t with the team anymore. But how did we do…
