Jeff Pearlman: J-E-T-S. Shut up, shut up, shut up …

When I was but a lad of 8 or 9, my mother offered some advice I’ve never forgotten.

“Boy,” she said, “if you’re ever a mediocre NFL cornerback who gets burned every third play …”

Yes, mother?

“… and if you position yourself significantly…

Jeff Pearlman: Bagwell: III

Because my take clearly isn’t very popular here, I’ve invited one of the dissenters, Gregg Ferrara, to offer his counter. Gregg is a good guy, and I appreciate him taking the time …

After a few emails back and forth today with Jeff, he asked me to say a few words on here. I am the furthest thing in the world from a writer, I am in the IT field by trade, but I will take a stab at it. Prefaced, I am sick of the steroid talk…

Jeff Pearlman: Cliff Lee and the Yanks down the toilet

If there is a Baseball God, Cliff Lee returns to Texas and the Yankees sit and watch Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and the best pitcher on the market go elsewhere.

I don’t know Lee, but I hope he’s enough of a smalltown guy to ignore the seventh year of the Yankee contract and stick with the [...]

Sportsman of the Year

Sportsman of the Year

Ever since I started writing for Sports Illustrated back in 1996, I’ve had a personal love-hate relationship with its Sportsman of the Year. Sometimes, the choices have been unarguable—the women’s soccer team, Tiger Woods, Buddy Biancalana. Other times, however, I’ve wanted to rip my hair out. Brett Favre? Dwayne Wade? That Roger Federer never won the damn thing—and now it’s too late—is a shame. I mean, who was better?

If two boxers fight in a ring, and nobody cares ?

Just read on SI.com that Vitali Klitschko dominated Shannon Briggs to retain his WBC heavyweight title.

I was shocked by this news, in that:

A. I didn’t realize Vitali Klitschko is still heavyweight champ.

B. I couldn’t believe Briggs still commands title fights.

Jeff Pearlman: Not so simple

Jeff Pearlman: Not so simple

A TV reporter named Ines Sainz has accused several members of the New York Jets of sexually inappropriate behavior during a recent practice. According to Sainz, a bunch of players and coaches deliberately tried to run into Sainz during a passing drill. According toPro Football Talk, Sainz was greeted in the locker room by catcalls and hooting. When a reporter approached Sainz to see if she was OK, lineman Kris Jenkins…

Jeff Pearlman: Paris

Jeff Pearlman: Paris

As I write this, I’m sitting in a small apartment we’re renting (on the ultra-cheap) here in Paris for a few days before winding up our month-long European adventure. Woke up this morning at 4 to catching a 6:55 flight from Gerona, Spain to France. Was sorta sad to leave, but the drooling cat was too much. She meowed at all hours, and maggots started attacking her food dish. It’s why I have a dog.

Hanley and Ethnicity

Hanley and Ethnicity

What has gone unsaid throughout the entire Hanley Ramirez saga is the ever-thickening layer of distrust between American major leaguers and Hispanic major leaguers. It’s not thick, like a sheet of paper. It’s thick, like a brick wall. There are obviously many exceptions here. But an enormous number of American major league players believe their [...]

Who Dat! Break out the mindless coverage ?

The Saints won! The Saints won! A victory for the city of New Orleans! A victory for Drew Brees and Jonathan Vilma! A victory for … for … us! The media! Who dat, bitch? Who dat? Although Super Bowls are traditionally a time for the wonderful world of mindless sports coverage, this year will be [...]
