Now that the dust from UFC 98 has settled, MikeDead and -C.B- are going to break down the Event. Frank Edgar showed that he has an impressive standing game. Do you think that he’s one big win away from a title shot?

MikeDead: One big win; maybe. But I’m not convinced that a win over Sherk will be enough to get Frank Edgar that big fight just yet. The win over Sherk was certainly impressive, but I’d like to see how he fares in his next fight, and what a win over Sherk will get him in his next bout.

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I’m taking time to sit back and reflect on the reasons why today most of us are off of work and spending time with friends and family instead. I’ll admit, sitting back and taking a look at the calendar a couple of weeks ago, I was very excited that I had a Monday off from the daily grind of my job.

Well that was the most fun I’ve had all season, how about you? They are still a long way from being decent, much less good, however a win is a win and you take it everyday. So far, the Arizona Diamondbacks can say they have taken four days like that in the past week.

Great. Another favorite player I’ll be forced to hate. There are rumors floating around the internet that San Diego Padres righty Jake Peavy is about to head to Chicago. Only, he’ll be donning the South Side Pinstripes, not surrounded by ivy as expected. The deal (contingent upon Peavy waiving his no-trade clause) supposedly includes left-hander Clayton Richard and 22-year-old southpaw Aaron Poreda. However, some reports say the deal is not imminent.

The Orlando Magic handed the Cleveland Cavaliers its first loss of the postseason, and third loss at home this season, in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals; the Magic won 107-106. MVP Lebron James may be the best player in the league, but last night’s loss to the Magic proves that even a King needs some support. James scored 49 of the Cavaliers 106 points, approximately 46 percent of the team’s total points. Of course he could do this every game, but this team wasn’t built to win that way. Mo Williams has to shoot better, 6-19 won’t do it, and Big Z must attempt to score more because with his lack of foot speed, we all know he’s going to get torched by Dwight Howard, so why not make him work on both ends of the court.

The Los Angeles Lakers will win the NBA Finals. Literally, I’m not going out on a limb with this prediction since the Lakers have been the favorites majority of the season. Yeah, I know the Yaoless, McGradyless Rockets gave the Lakers a handful, though it took a seven game series, they did prevail. Many critics, writers and fans have recently jumped off the bandwagon which is not a surprise, given how inconsistent the Lakers play has been in the post season. Inconsistent or not, the Lakers are the best team in the NBA and here are five reasons why they’re taken the title back to LA.

The New York Yankees aren’t quite sure what to do with Chien-Ming Wang right now. The sucktastic righty threw a bullpen session at Yankee Stadium Wednesday, but the club isn’t sure when he’ll return to the rotation or what they’re supposed to do with Phil Hughes when and if he does. The 22-year-old Hughes is scheduled to pitch Wednesday night and would start again this coming Monday against theTexas Rangers, unless the Yanks decide Wang’s sinker is back to what it used to be. If the team does decide to use Wang this Monday or after, Hughes could take a seat in the bullpen — which has been struggling with a 5.37 ERA — or worse, return to the minors. All in the name of another great headline.
