Dwight Howard will take a good look at his free agency options other than the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are two of the teams that could end up wooing the free agent center, CBS Sports' Ken Berger reports.

While the Lakers were hoping for a relatively quick decision from Howard to re-sign with them, sources told Berger that they believe the big man will give his free agency a lot of thought. Although Los Angeles could offer Howard a five-year deal and higher increased pay from year to year compared to a team that signs him away as an unrestricted free agent, there are other, non-monetary advantages if Howard were to leave Lakerland.

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Sang-Moon Bae watched anxiously after hitting his tee shot at the par-3 17th hole Sunday in the Byron Nelson Championship.

When the ball landed on the front edge of the green fronted by water, he bent his knees and leaned backward obviously relieved. He was only a few shots away from his first PGA Tour victory and a congratulatory hug from the widow of the tournament's namesake.

After squandering a four-stroke lead in the final round, the 26-year-old South Korean beat Keegan Bradley by two stokes for a win in the United States to go with his 11 international victories on the Korea, Japan and Asian tours

If things are to be different for the Pacers this time around, they'll have to rely on the NBA's best defense and the emergence of George and Roy Hibbert as a formidable pair of two-way stars. The Pacers will be confident when they tangle with Miami, fresh off of a statement series win over the New York Knicks and armed with the knowledge that they've already proved they can play with this year's version of the Heat.

Indy logged a surprising 2-1 record against Miami during the 2012-13 regular season.

The Heat, still rolling along after a 4-1 series victory over the Chicago Bulls, look as unbeatable as ever. Aside from the persistent questions surrounding Dwyane Wade's cranky knee, Miami lacks an obvious weakness. Indiana is a much-improved team this year, but the Heat have enjoyed some growth of their own.

Season Series: Pacers 2, Heat 1
Playoff Seeds: Pacers No. 3; Heat No. 1
Playoff Records: Pacers 8-4; Heat 8-1
Playoff Schedule:

Game 1: Wednesday, May 22, 8:30 p.m. ET (TNT)

Game 2: Friday, May 24, 8:30 p.m. ET (TNT)

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The San Antonio Spurs opened the Western Conference finals resembling the past champions who've been there so many times before.

The Memphis Grizzlies looked like the first-timers still trying to adapt to their first conference finals appearance.

Tony Parker had 20 points and nine assists, Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points and the Spurs struck first by beating Memphis 105-83 on Sunday.
San Antonio raced out to a 17-point lead in the first quarter, then came up with a response when Memphis rallied to get within six in the second half. Both teams pulled their starters with over 5 minutes left and the Spurs leading by 21.

''I can promise you this: Nobody's happy in our locker room, because we were up 2-0 (in the West finals) last year and we lost,'' Parker said. ''It's just one game. It means nothing. We still have a long way to go.''

This pairs nicely with the situation that arose in the sixth inning in Baltimore this afternoon. Major League Baseball is likely to expand video review in 2014, reports the Associated Press. Commissioner Bud Selig, who has staunchly opposed expansion of replay usage in the past, says his view on the issue has “evolved”. After watching the Angel Hernandez and Fieldin Culbreth spectacles recently, it would have been more remarkable if Selig’s views had not evolved.

Some other interesting information from the AP article:
In tests last year at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, MLB experimented with the Hawk-Eye animation system that is used to judge line calls in tennis and the TrackMan radar software used by the PGA Tour.
[...]

The group is examining whether to have replay officials in booths at ballparks or at a central location, and whether to have umpires wear headsets, as soccer officials do. Torre is against giving managers a challenge system, as NFL coaches have, but says opinion is split.

I, for one, welcome our new robot umpire overlords.

The ninth inning of today’s Reds-Phillies series finale was full of statistical improbabilities. First, Delmon Young drew a four-pitch walk (yes, Delmon Young walked) against Aroldis Chapman. He was immediately replaced by pitcher and pinch-runner Cliff Lee. With Erik Kratz at the plate battling Chapman in a 2-2 count, the lefty reliever picked Lee off of first, seemingly a momentum and rally killer.

(Why did Phillies manager Charlie Manuel pinch-run with a pitcher instead of John Mayberry, Jr.? He wanted to save a right-handed bat to pinch-hit for reliever Antonio Bastardo later in the inning. Lee has pinch-run for the Phillies many times in the past, and is better at the task than Young.)
Kratz worked the count to 3-2, then drove a Chapman fastball over the fence in left field for a game-tying solo home run. It was the second consecutive game in which Chapman has forked over a lead. On Thursday, Chapman allowed an inherited runner to score on a Marcell Ozuna triple.

It’s not every day a player can say he accomplished a Ruthian feat, but Matt Moore has earned that very prestigious honor today. As the pitcher of record behind the Rays’ 3-1 win over the Orioles this afternoon, Moore improved to 8-0 in nine starts this season, becoming the first lefty age 23 or younger to start 8-0 since Babe Ruth in 1917 with the Red Sox. That astonishing fact comes to us via the SportsCenter Twitter account.

Moore, who turns 24 on June 18, held the Orioles to one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. Among starters who have made nine starts, his 34 total hits allowed is the lowest in the American League and bested only by Matt Harvey‘s 32.

In the 30th meeting between the tennis greats, Nadal controlled the final from the start and won 6-1, 6-3 Sunday for his seventh Italian Open title.

It was the most lopsided win in the series since Nadal also lost just four games, but over three sets, in the 2008 French Open final against Federer.

Where the heck did Ryan Newman come from?

On a restart in the middle of the fourth segment of Saturday night's Sprint All-Star Race, Newman dashed to the outside in turns one and two like his car suddenly got a boost of nitrous oxide and made a pair of three-wide passes before he had even gotten to the backstretch.

He wasn't done there. His crazy momentum off the high side of turn two had him on the back bumper of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a flash and after giving Junior a bump, Newman moved to the inside to pass him.

However, Kyle Busch was there, because unlike Newman, he hadn't gotten through turns one and two very well and lost positions. As Newman came down, Busch drifted up and the two made contact with Busch suffering some right front fender damage and Newman acquiring a tire rub.

And with that tire rub, the headway that Newman made that lap stalled out. He ended up 13th while Busch maintained his position near the front of the field and finished third.

In a season that has already endured the drama of one cheating allegation, another was set to boil last night when Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki asked umpire Tim McClelland to inspect the baseball Giants starter Madison Bumgarner was gripping. McClelland gave it a once-over, then tossed the ball out of play. Bumgarner said something to Tulowitzki — exactly what, we don’t know — ostensibly voicing his displeasure at having his credibility called into question.

Tulowitzki clarified his intentions to the media. CSN Bay Area’s Andrew Baggarly with the quotes:
“I wasn’t accusing him at all,” Tulowitzki said. “I have too much respect for him to do something like that. I didn’t think they were cheating.”
[...]

“You respect the game and there’s something on the baseball, so let’s get rid of it and move on,” Tulowitzki said. “You respect guys who compete. I have respect for him and hopefully he has the same for me.”
