NFL Sounds Of Superbowl Reveal Huge Mistake

Sounds Of Superbowl Reveal Huge Mistake By Referee
By Scott St. John on February 9, 2012 in Sports

Last night, NFL Network aired the show SoundFX with the sights and sounds of Superbowl XLVI. The broadcast revealed some of the huge gaffes that were made in the game including a blown holding call that could have cost the New York Giants the game.

The Giants were driving into Patriot territory, when on a second and one, Brandon Jacobs picked up the first down with a run to the left side. Giants left guard Kevin Boothe was called for a hold on Patriots tackle Vince Wilfork. The Giants ended up facing third down and 11 and Eli Manning couldn’t complete a pass to Mario Manningham and the Giants drive stalled.

The referee that made the call never sounded too sure of himself when he told the head linesman and then the ref asked Wilfork who said, “no, you got it wrong, I wasn’t held.” These mistakes by refs drive fans crazy because one guy, who is not even playing in the game, can influence the outcome. That ref should never officiate a big game again in the NFL again. He needs to be held accountable or we could have another situation like we had when the Steelers beat the Seahawks on a blown call by referee Bill Leavy.

Another interesting sideline exchange that was picked up by NFL cameras and boom mics was Bill Belechik telling his secondary to double Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks and force Eli to throw to Mario Manningham. Well, as we all know that advice proved costly as Manningham came up with one of the biggest catches in Superbowl history.
