I Am Legend is my favorite book, by my favorite author. The Will Smith movie sucked, but not because it's not accurate to the source material. It sucks because it's really a really terrible remake of The Omega Man.
I don't blame Smith because he can only do so much with what he had to work with. The main problem with this movie, and many "action" movies being made to date is Akiva Goldsman. Nearly everything he has produced or written is pretty shitty. Also, I'm not really sure why this is a "new" story. It was announced as a prequel about a year or so after I Am Legend was released. Weird. If you haven't seen I Am Legend, please watch Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price, and then watch The Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston first. Richard Matheson claims that the best adaptation of his book is the original Night of the Living Dead.

Yeah, I definitely don't place any blame on Smith. (I mean, I place blame on him in the sense that he doesn't take any really challenging roles and instead sticks with blockbuster titles that won't disturb the image he's great for himself.) He was masterful in I Am Legend, for the most part.

He ran with the grenade and turned into Hancock before it exploded.

I'd rather hear more about the new Ghostbusters and Mad Max movies...

I want to see Smith in a movie he doesn't have to carry by himself...He's an absolutely incredible actor, but he's always put in to movies where he has to completely carry it and gets very little help from the script or the actors. Men In Black being the only real exception I can think of.

I just want to see him back in general. That is, in a movie that isn't Men in Black III. Was never a fan of the series.
It's crazy to think that the last time we saw Will Smith act was before Barack Obama was inaugurated.
