Celtics acquire Kris Humpries from Nets

"It's a good day here today for the Boston Celtics. We're excited for Kris to join the team and excited at the potential he brings." Those were the words of Celtics coach Doc Rivers earlier today, when news of the Kris Humphries to Celtics deal first broke. Humprhries, who will join his 5th team since he was drafted in 2004, was exchanged along with Sheldon Williams for the often injuried and aging Celtics center Jermaine O'Neal and Chris Wilcox. Humphries, who has averaged 8 points and 9.6 rebounds this season said earlier that he "was excited to join the Celtics and play with so many great players". Doc Rivers has stated that Humphries will start at center for the Celtics for the remainder of the season. Humphries is due to make 8 million this season and his contract expires at the end of the year.

All Star's for 2012 announced; Rondo the only Celtic

With many players on the Boston Celtics roster with experience in the All Star Game, some thought that some of the regulars would be in the game. When the rosters were released though, none of the Celtics "Big 3" were voted into this year's All Star Game. The lone Celtic voted in was point guard Rajon Rondo, who is honored with his 3rd consecutive appearance in the game. It marks the end of an 11 year All Star run for Kevin Garnett who is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds this season. Here's the rest of the lineups for the 2012 All Star Game

East

Derrick Rose
Dwayne Wade
LeBron James
Carmelo Anthony
Dwight Howard

John Wall
Stephen Jackson
Andre Iguodala
Josh Smith
Brook Lopez
Rajon Rondo
Andrea Bargani

West

Russell Westbrook
Kobe Bryant
Kevin Durant
Blake Griffin
Al Jefferson

Stephen Curry
Manu Ginobili
Rudy Gay
Pau Gasol
Andrew Bynum
Monta Ellis
Tony Parker

Coach Rivers, the team clinched a playoff spot after beating the Sacramento Kings. Now that you know you are going to the playoffs how will that impact the way that the team plays until the playoffs?

DR: Well clinching the playoffs was great but our work isn't finished. We still haven't clinched the Atlantic Division or the Eastern Conference and we are still in contention with some great teams for those spots. We will keep grinding and playing hard as we have all season until the time comes for the playoffs and when that time comes we will have to turn it up to another level.

In the month since the trade for Kris Humphries, how do you think he has adjusted to his new role with a new team?

DR: Well as I said when we acquired him we were excited to have him and he has played extremley well contributing on the offensive and defensive side as well as pulling down a lot of rebounds. Kris is a great player and hopefully he can help us going forward and into the playoffs.

With the season coming to a close, it has to be in the back of your mind with all of the expiring contracts at the end of the season with none of them resolved. Any word on the extensions at the end of the season?

DR: Not at all. Everybody is focused on making the Finals not getting a new contract. As long as they want to come back we will bring them back but we will cross that bridge when it comes.
