Contest ^Updated: 2012 SJ Mock Draft Contest

2012 SJ Mock Draft Contest

RULES:

One entry per person. Final edit must be done before actual draft begins. Staff will lock the thread at the appropriate time.

SCORING:

3 points for matching team with player at exact draft position

2 points for matching team with player at wrong draft position

1 point for matching team with correct player position at exact draft position

Examples...

If someone for some reason has this...

1. Indianapolis - Andrew Luck (QB)
2. Washington - Robert Griffin III (QB)
3. Minnesota - Riley Reiff (OT)
4. Cleveland - Brandon Weeden (QB)
5. Tampa - John Doe (K)
22. Cleveland - Joe Blow (TE)

And the draft turns out like this...

1. Indianapolis - Andrew Luck (QB)
2. Washington - Robert Griffin III (QB)
3. Minnesota - Matt Kalil (OT)
4. Cleveland - John Doe (K)
5. Tampa - Joe Blow (TE)
22. Cleveland - Brandon Weeden (QB)

Then they would have 9 points from these six picks (3 for first and second, 1 for matching position with team in the third pick, nada for the fifth pick and 2 for putting the correct player with the correct team but in the wrong draft position).

Tiebreakers

First Tiebreaker: Guess the time (hours and minutes) the first round takes to complete.
Second tie-breaker: Guess how many trades occur in the first round - during the draft only.

Thread will be closed as the draft begins. Staff will lock the thread at the appropriate time.

Please post your best first-round mock draft (with tie-breakers) HERE in THIS thread. Entries outside this thread or on any other forum will not be accepted.

The Prizes:
1st place: $25 Gift Card to NFL.COM pro shop
2nd place: SJ Tshirt.

I guess I'll be the first to post my mock. Everyone, be jelly.

The best mock draft you will ever see in your life. Of course I'll be taking home the championship again this year.

1. Indianapolis "We're changing our name to the Andrew Luck experience" Colts: Andrew "compare me to John Elway?" Luck QB, Stanford

If there's a team that needs a QB more than the Colts please allow them to trade their next 10 first round picks for Mr. Luck. Speaking of Luck, he'll need some to have any sort of winning season with the Colts.

2. Washington "Barack Obama should be ashamed we're in DC" Redskins: Robert "My socks are more interesting than your entire life" Griffin III QB, Baylor

Redskins gave up about 200 draft picks to the Rams just to draft Robert and his incredible socks. Hell scouts are making up stories just to tarnish Roberts rep.

3. Cleveland "Let's trade another pick" Browns: Trent Richardson, HB, Alabama

The Browns are pretty much terrible across the board, except on defense, they have a semi-solid secondary with Joe Haden......well, Joe Haden. Richardson will take the pressure off McCoy and allow him to actually attempt to become a decent starter. Minnesota "We can't get a new stadium"

4. Minnesota "We can't get a new stadium" Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Vikings gave up 49 sacks last season. Ponder still had a relatively good last part of the season after that one old dude gave up on them. Kalil with his 6'7 frame is a good backside blocker who will keep Ponder on his feet.

5. Tampa "We're embarrassed about Josh Freeman" Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Scored a 4 on the Wonderlic? Big deal, doing a test doesn't show how well you understand football. It would be different if you had to solve a algorithmic equation before you get to start the play. However that's not the way the game works.

6. St. Louis "Greatest show on turf." Rams Justin Blackmon WR. Oklahoma St.

Is it wrong to say he's a special talent? He was supposed to go to the Rams at 2, and then the Rams traded said pick to the Skins. I still think Blackmon is going to be a hell of a player.

7. Jacksonville "What the hell?" Jaguars: Michael Floyd , WR, Notre Dame

Jacksonville had little help for Blaine Gabbert, and Floyd could provide a big target to help Gabbert's poor rookie performance. Floyd can be a pretty good if not star in the league if he puts the work in.

8. Miami "Dan Marino come back" Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

Miami lost the Manning sweepstakes, and then lost the Flynn sweepstakes, oh and don't forget about the failed attempt to get the number 2 pick from the Rams. Ryan is a solid qb and will provide someone better than Matt Moore.

9. Carolina "I was wrong about Newton being a bust. I apologize" Panthers: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

Speaking of Newton, he needs to be protected, and while the Panthers have a decent line Riley is a good player who can step in and start at the drop of a dime.

10. Buffalo "We got Mario Williams" Bills: Mike Adams OT, Ohio State.

Adams has the most NFL-ready frame of all the offensive tackles in this draft and from what I’m hearing from a variety of scouts, there’s a lot to like about the Buckeye. The Bills may be “reaching” at 10th overall on a guy who many mock drafts have going in the second round.

11. Kansas "...I can't think of one" Chiefs: Luke Kuechly LB, Boston College

The all-time leading tackler in both school and Atlantic Coast Conference history is the perfect player for Kansas City G.M. Scott Pioli: whistle-clean character, great instincts, not exactly the biggest physical guy but he'll be a good linebacker nonetheless.

12. Seattle "Surprise!" Seahawks: Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB South Carolina

If he's not, Ingram is the kind of versatile rush guy Pete Carroll could use both outside and inside; he had 25 tackles behind the line in 2011. Barron? Even with the Seahawks' terrific secondary, his addition would mean Carroll could play three thumping safeties on every down but first. Basically go with Melvin, he's the best possible fit for Seattle.

13. Arizona "We can't please Fitzgerald" Cardinals: David DeCastro OG, Stanford.

He protected Luck extremely well while at Stanford mistake free high motor he's the type of player that the Cardinals could use. Especially with Kolb stinking up the place. Oh and don't forget that DeCastro will help out Beanie Wells.

14. Dallas "'Merica's team" Cowboys: Mark Barron Safety, Alabama

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas trade up to make sure it gets Barron, perhaps with Kansas City at 11. The Cowboys have no identity in the secondary. No big-time players either. Barron would immediately boost a unit that's been beaten down and provide the kind of tackler at safety that the 'Boys haven't had since Darren Woodson.

15. Philadelphia "We learned not to go through Free Agency" Eagles. Quinton Couples DE North Carolina

We're getting to the part of the draft -- mid first round -- where beauty's in the eye of the beholder, and teams reach for pass rushers who often don't pan out. Philly D-line coach Jim Washburn is as demanding as they come, and Coples will have a chance to make the Eagles more formidable up front

16. Tim Tebow.

Er. I mean New York Tebows...Jets: Dontari Poe DT. Memphis

Diz big azz 306 pounder....alright for seriousness, he's an amazingly athletic big man, he showed that at the combine. Poe is a big threat on the inside that the Jets thought Vernon Gholston would turn out to be, he didn't, can Poe become what the T-E-B-O-W-S- TEBOWS! envision?

17. Cincinnati "Dalton-Green connection" Bengals: Courtney "damn gurl u fine" Upshaw LB/DE Ala-fuckin-Bama. (sorry I wanted to way back at pick 4)

Bengals have been getting random gentlemen from the free agency pool in hopes of putting...well, something together, Courtney is a great pass rusher, and drops back into coverage well, this is an easy pick.

18. San Diego "Isn't there enough teams in California?" Chargers: Michael Brockers, DT/DE, LSU

I don't know much about the Chargers or their defensive line but Brockers would be a huge addition, both physically and for a long term investment.

19. Chicago "DA" Bears: Kendall Wright WR, Baylor

He goes from a college bear to a pro bear, Coach Smith went to dinner with this kid and apparently fell in love and that's really all that matters, just making one team fall for you and boom, you're going to be drafted, and along side Brandon Marshall Wright should get great defensive looks to be a good rook

20. Tennessee "Vince Young lol" Titans: Whitney Mercilus DE/OLB Illinois

Whitney had a breakout year for the Fighting Illiani, he lacks good speed but he has tremendous tackling ability. Whitney is a person the Titans can use to refortify their line.

21. Cincinnati "What is defense?" Bengals: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB Alabama

How many times have you heard "These Bengals have some solid corners and these wide outs can't catch anything?" That's right, never, maybe now you'll hear "Dre Kirkpatrick allows 0 yards, man he's a good corner.

22. Cleveland "God we hate it here." Browns: Johnathan Martin, OT Stanford

Do you really need a reason other than he protected Luck for three years.

23. Baltimore "Flacco is elite" Ravens (trade with Lions): Dont'a Hightower

Ray Lewis has been getting older and older and the Ravens have been looking for a replacement for him or to have Lewis train, here he is.

24. Pittsburgh "Shitsburgh" Steelers: Kevin Zeitler OG, Wisconsin

Have you seen Pitts line for the past couple season? Shit. Kevin adds someone that the Steelers can....lean on?

25. Denver "Haha, we got Peyton" Broncos: Cordy Glenn OG/OT Georgia

Glenn’s one of the rare people on Earth who tips the scales at 345 pounds and still runs a sub-5.0 40-yard-dash. The big fella wowed scouts at the combine, showing speed and agility that had reporters suggesting he could play center, guard, or even tackle at the next level

26. Houston "We might as well sign every undrafted player ever." Texans: Stephen Hill WR, Georgia Tech

Hill is 6'5 a speed threat and when you place him opposite of Andre Johnson, that's a duo that gives defenses headaches.

27. New England "Spygate" Patriots Shea McClellin, OLB, Boise State

His senior season was a monstrous one. He had 12.5 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks and contributed on 50 tackles. He’s an active defender who could either play the outside linebacker in a 3-4 or a defensive end in a 4-3.

28. Green Bay "We will be the Champs again. Packers: Nick Perry DE/OLB USC

I shall only say we needed a bigger threat opposite Clay Matthews, and Nick Perry can deliver that threat.

29. Detroit "Megatron" Lions: Amini Silatolu OG/OT Midwestern State.

Powerfully based and more explosive than he looks at 6-4 and 312 pounds, he could succeed Jeff Backus at left tackle, where Silatolu dominated Division II opponents for two years.

30. San Francisco "Bay City" 49ers: Coby Feeler TE, Stanford.

Jim Harbaugh likes smart, physical, versatile skill players, and because he had Fleener for four years at Stanford (including Fleener's redshirt season of 2007), no coach knows a player in this draft better. Fleener isn't as athletic as Vernon Davis, but he did gain 17.8 yards per reception in his last two seasons for the Cardinal.

31. New England "More Spygate" Patriots Jerel Worthy DT, Michigan State.

Patriots lost 20 out of their 40 sacks to free agency and Andre Carter. Worthy could bring some of those sacks back to New England

32. New York "I hate you." Giants Harrison Smith Safety, Notre Dame.

A mature four-year starter for the Irish, Smith has the speed to play free safety and the tackling ability to play strong. The Giants could go in a lot of directions here, with McClellin and Mike Adams both possible because of positional need. But a 47-game college starter and eager special-teamer will be too much for G.M. Jerry Reese to pass up.

Time: 3 hours 30 minutes.
