Amazing what a NL West title will do for you. The Arizona Diamondbacks, playing in virtual obscurity until the 2011 postseason, will get the chance to once again show off their regular season play in front of a national audience or at the very least, in front of a regional audience outside of Arizona. In [...]
The non-tendering of Joe Saunders was some of this offseason’s least-surprising news. Maybe it doesn’t happen even 10 years ago, but in today’s world, with the access to advanced statistics and theories about market efficiency we have, it was basically inevitable. Being non-tendered doesn’t make Saunders a bad pitcher, though. Between that and the subsequent [...]
Welcome to this season’s third edition of There’s Always Next Year, starring the Arizona Diamondbacks!
Nyjer Morgan is T-Clutch, which he prefers to be called when he is kicking ass, taking names, and driving in walkoff runs to advance his team to the National League Championship Series. The Brewers advanced Friday night and sent the Diamondbacks packing for the offseason in the 10th [...]
Many weaknesses, many strengths came into play in the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 10th inning victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, a victory that sends the Brewers to the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Before I go any further though, congrats to the Milwaukee Brewers. It ended up being a good series which included a great game five.
The Dbacks had a little of everything [...]
In Game 5 of the 1984 World Series, Kirk Gibson came up to the plate with runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the eighth with the Detroit Tigers up 5-4. San Diego Padres’ manager Dick Williams to have a strategy session with Rich “Goose” Gossage. Williams wanted to walk [...]
The day finally came! No more magic numbers, no more scoreboard watching. The Arizona Diamondbacks have won the National League West by defeating the San Francisco Giants on Friday night at Chase Field. It wasn’t easy, but as I’ve said all season, it’s not worth it if it is easy. Nice to see the Dbacks have to work to get the first prize in the NL West. [...]
September 11, 2001. I remember the day well. I was getting ready for work when I got a call from my sister, who worked for KLAS TV in Las Vegas at the time. She called to ask if I knew of anyone in the World Trade Center. I thought it to be an odd question at 6:30am on a Tuesday morning, especially since she worked the 10pm newscast. Why was she calling me? [...]
Ian Kennedy went out tonight and did what he’s been doing all year, win. He won his 19th game of the season to 19-4 overall as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Diego Padres 4-1 on Thursday night. The Dbacks magic number to win the National League West is now 12. The San Francisco Giants were idle. The Dbacks lead was extended to 7.5 games over the Giants and they are now only 1.5 [...]
It’s just one game.
But for one game, anyway, the San Francisco Giants looked a little bit like the team that won the World Series less than one year ago.
Entering Friday night’s contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the second-place Giants trailed the first-place Diamondbacks by six games. Realistically, the Giants need to win at least twice in this [...]
