Well for missing yesterday, it was a fairly uneventful day. Today has also been very slow. The big news is that the Seattle Mariners have reached a deal with SS Jack Wilson. The deal is worth $10M for 2 years. Wilson, more famous in Pittsburgh never really got comfortable with the Mariners in 31 games. …

The Pirates have decided to offer contract extensions to Jack Wilson and Freddie Sanchez.
This blog gives you three reasons why the Pirates might do this.
1. The front office finally gets it. The Pirates are tied for the MLB lead in double plays turned. Building a solid defensive team, you have to be strong up the middle. Jack and Freddie are both very good with the gloves.
2. The Pirates offered these guys up to trades and were offered very little in return, or not what they expected. Both guys have more value here than with someone else.

Orlando Cabrera, Jack Wilson, J.J. Hardy, Clint Barmes, Jeff Francoeur, Jason Donald. What am I rambling about? Supposedly Mr. Theo Epstein has been making quite a few calls around the league. Though there isn’t anything substantial yet, it is still interesting that we are hearing so many names lately. Maybe Theo isn’t looking to wait until the trade deadline to do a little wheeling and dealing.
