TALLADEGA, Ala. – It’s been a rough year for Jeff Gordon, and Talladega was the cruelest kind of torture: a weekend that began so well yet ended in wreckage. Gordon started on the pole at Talladega, but couldn’t even lead a single lap. Constant problems with overheating dogged him all afternoon long, and finally on [...]

2012 NASCAR Preview: Part 3 In Part 3 we delve into the lower half of the predicted “Chase” qualifiers. These are the drivers that will make the Chase but will find themselves just short of that Cup Championship come November in Homestead, FL. With mega teams like Richard Childress Racing and Roush-Fenway Racing downsizing from [...]
Typically, Jimmie Johnson is talking about his championship run at this point of the season. Instead, Johnson was busy Friday answering questions about a suspect comment by crew chief Chad Knaus prior to last weekend’s race at Talladega Superspeedway. Johnson reasserted Knaus’ innocence, saying NASCAR never raised an eyebrow while inspecting the No. 48 car. “That car [...]
Crashes, white-knuckle racing and a close finish made for another excellent race at Talladega, with Clint Bowyer earning his first win of the year thanks to a bit of teamwork and a slingshot at the end. As the field bunch up late in the race, the restarts came often, but Bowyer was able to take [...]
Wait a second. You’re telling me you missed the NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway because you had other things to do on a Saturday night? The horror! I’m kidding, of course. Ratings for Saturday night races are traditionally lower than Sunday afternoon races because people often are out and about on Saturday evenings. So [...]
Generally in the world of sports, the most historically successful teams are the most popular ones. The New York Yankees, Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Lakers immediately come to mind. In NASCAR, there are two all-time greats currently on the Sprint Cup circuit in Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Interestingly enough, their success hasn’t led [...]
We are 7 races into the 2010 Nascar season, and some big names are outside the Top 12 in points, and some unlikely drivers are either in the Top 12 or are hanging around real close. Is this what Nascar intended? More to the point is this good for the sport?
The season started off with 20-year old-Trevor Bayne shocking everyone by taking the Wood Brothers back to victory lane in the seasons biggest race, The Daytona 500. This Daytona race saw the two car tango as opposed to big packs of cars…
Uhhh…NO, I don’t think Joey is hot (I swing, but not THAT way), but my NASCAR advisor, Rachel “Ray-Ray” Trimm thinks he is and told me to say so. My informal poll determined that 84.7345% of the “cougars” at Sports Jabber also think Joey is hot. Then again, most of them are…
The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of Nascar. It sets the tone and the expectations for certain drivers for the remainder of the season. In a sense it can make or break drivers.
What does it mean to me? It is a very special race to me because I never truly watched Nascar till 2001 when Dale Earnhardt died. I guess in a sense, I can thank him for getting me to watch it.
