In what could be one of the more intriguing matchups of this bowl slate, the Florida Gators take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2012 Gator Bowl from EverBank Field in Jacksonville, FL.
The intrigue of course surrounds the recent hire by Ohio State of former Florida head coach Urban Meyer. In 10 years as a head coach, Meyer owns an impressive record of 104-23, [...]
Urban Meyer to Ohio State was a done deal long before it was announced yesterday. In Columbus, it was public knowledge in about Late September to early October. Yet, people who live in the Penn State bubble actually believed Meyer would come to this program, even after the pedophile scandal broke, and the sky fell in on the program. Sure, many more denizens of Creepy Valley believed he was coming to PSU before the Sandusky news broke than after. But this headline [...]
No matter their record, no matter how the teams are viewed, when Michigan and Ohio State get together for their annual game, it’s going to be a war. It’s the biggest game on the schedule for each team. Beating the other team can turn a down year into an acceptable one. Ohio State under Coach Jim Tressel went 9-1 in the rivalry with a 7 game win streak, although the last win is vacated. Now both teams are with first year coaches and looking to gain control. [...]
Last week, the Penn State Nittany Lions played their first game after the biggest story is sports history unfolded on their campus. It led to their first Big Ten loss of the season. This week they’ll take to the road for the first time in the wake of the PSU pedophilia scandal, and face the team they knocked off the front page of the college football scandal sheet- the Ohio State Buckeyes.
There are four big traditional powers [...]
Letter From an OSU Fan to Penn State Fans
“Dear Penn State Fan/Alumni,
You don’t know me. Sure, we may have seen each other once or twice at a road game or a tailgate, but aside from a passing glance, and an occasional hello, we are strangers. Heck, we’re actually more like enemies. After all, I’m a fan of The Ohio State University – tOSU, or O$U as you might[...]
The NCAA has notified Ohio State that it will face a “failure to monitor charge” in addition to more allegations related to its football program. On Thursday Ohio State announced it will dock itself five total football scholarships over the next three years in response to the new alleged violations.
The Buckeyes are currently awaiting a ruling after going before the NCAA’s committee on infractions back in August for the tattoo-for-memorabilia scandal [...]
The #15 Wisconsin Badgers national title hopes may be dead, but their Big Ten title hopes are well and alive. Their route to the inaugural Big Ten Championship and a BCS bowl hits another potential barricade this weekend when they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
At 4-3 and 1-2 in the conference, this Ohio State team is not your typical Buckeye team. In fact, this will be the first time since 1963 that the Badgers enter the game [...]
The Ohio State Buckeyes are off this week, but they are planning a “Scarlet Out” for their next game, Oct. 29, when the Buckeyes host the #4 Wisconsin Badgers in an 8 p.m. ET kickoff.
They’ll also honor Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George at halftime.
The Ohio State Department of Athletics [...]
It was ugly, and anything but exciting. Still, Ohio State gave the Illini their first loss of the 2011 season. Buckyes QB Braxton Miller didn’t even complete a pass until 13:06 left in the fourth quarter, when he found TE Jake Stoneburner in the middle of the south end zone to put OSU up 16-0.
Prior to that play, Miller was just 0-3 passing on the day. The Buckeyes were BORING and one-dimensional, but it was enough [...]
The Good:
Believe it or not, there are good things coming out of this season for Ohio State. The problem is, most of the good is looking towards the future; and most of it concerns Braxton Miller. Though he struggled early, the highly touted freshman is beginning to come into his own. His arm is obviously not developed yet, but the athleticism is there in full. At Nebraska, Miller was 5-8 for 95 yards and a touchdown while running nine times for 91 yards. [...]
