Some guys just don’t get it. Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison is one of “those guys.” This guy was fined a quarter million dollars in 2010 alone for illegal hits, yet he still delivers them on a regular basis. Harrison’s latest was a helmet-to-facemask blow on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy [...]
I played for coaches in my career that preached and drilled a physical brand of football. Tackle hard, push the envelope and put that style on tape for the entire league to see.
Call it “controlled violence” if you want to. And, at times, it could get nasty.
That’s pro football from a defensive perspective.
However, what we saw today [...]
Soiled Ohio St. Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel didn’t get far since leaving Columbus, emerging elsewhere in Big Ten country as the Indianapolis Colts’ newest game-day consultant. His primary task will be telling Jim Caldwell when to throw a challenge flag. Stop laughing. Alerting Jim Caldwell to on-field action is harder than it looks, and requires an executive’s talents.

A number of reports over the afternoon indicate that the NFL and the NFLPA have have made progress on the rookie wage scale issue. Over the last few days, the rookie wage scale, especially the length of the contracts for first round draft picks, had been considered a key stumbling block on the path towards a new CBA.

Tuesday’s owners meetings have produced quite a bit of NFL lockout news already — including looks at the potential new revenue split and free agency — but most football fans are going to be happy to start seeing more things like this: Yahoo! Sports’ Jason Cole says, “more people inside the room seem encouraged. Deal isn’t done, but it may be a matter of paperwork [...]
The NFL lockout is still on.
According to multiple reports, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has granted the NFL’s motion for a stay, meaning the lockout remains in effect.

Remember when the NFL and the NFLPA decided to keep out of the media as they tried to work out a last minute CBA?
That’s long ago.
Today not much happened at all at the mediator’s office. The NFLPA waited for three hours for the league to arrive, which they didn’t.[...]
George S. Cohen announced that the NFL and the NFLPA have agreed on extending the current CBA seven days. Yesterday the NFL announced a 24-hour extension that was proposed by the owners. The 24 hour extension was designed to add time for both sides to make a longer extension.
Cohen’s statement was the following: “At the request of the FMCS, the parties have agreed to a seven-day extension…
The labor agreement that hasn’t been reached between the NFL’s 32 owners and the players’ association has been discussed ad nauseum since and prior to the Super Bowl. And the impact of a lockout on the owners and players has been included in those talks and writings. However, the NFL is far from a league that involves only 32 owners and approximately 2000 players. Beyond those two parties are plenty of other organizations[...]
Jim Irsay, the NFL’s version of Willy Wonka, will end his short stint on twitter after a request by Rodger Goddell, the commissioner of the NFL.
“I’m being shut down by Commish for my Tweets! My Punishment: Solitary Confinement with Mel Kiper,Drew Rosenhaus and a Life Insurance agent,” Irsay tweeted.
That tweet came after Irsay tweeted about his [...]
