I am still scratching my head, wondering why you would make a lateral move with two of the best pitchers in baseball. Phillies, what were you thinking? Roy Halladay is one of the best pitchers in the game today, and it is true that everyone else wants him on their squad. That is poor reasoning [...]
SI’s John Heyman just dropped this bombshell: The Phillies are in agreement on a three-team trade with the Mariners and Blue Jays to acquire star pitcher Roy Halladay, SI.com has learned. Sources say Halladay will agree to a contract extension to complete the deal. The Mariners would wind up with Cliff Lee in the deal. [...]
If I were starting a major league baseball team right now, and could choose whom I want of all the players available, I would look at the situation analytically. I wouldn’t just jump out and pick all the young dudes, hoping for years and years of excellence. Nor, would I pick all of those who [...]
We have a saying around here when stuff starts to get stale.
Blah, Blah, Blah.
Anyway, since Toronto Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi still hasn’t heard any tasty offers for staff ace Roy Halladay, he has set a July 28th deadline to complete a deal.
The 2003 Cy Young Award winner, who is signed through 2010 and has no-trade clause power at his fingertips, is 11-3 on the season with a 2.73 ERA and 113 strikeouts. Ricciardi won’t let on as to exactly how many proposals he’s received for Halladay, but he claims there’s been “enough.”
Reports are surfacing now that the Phillies have indeed signed free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez.
Martinez was reportedly asking for between $4-5 million, but settled with a one-year deal for only $1 million with a possible $1.5 million tied into performance and time played.
Martinez apparently realizes that the Phillies may be his last chance to finish his career with a World Series ring.
GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. has declined to say for sure whether or not Martinez has signed, or even passed his physical, but speaking in hypotheticals did say that Martinez “absolutely” would need two or three games in the minors before entering the rotation.
Roy Halladay could be on the move.
Ken Rosenthal first reported yesterday that the Toronto Blue Jays will listen to offers about their stud ace, Roy Halladay, speculation started to fly around the sports world as if Brett Favre was considering a comeback.
Roy Halladay chewed up and spit out one Los Angeles Angels batter after another Tuesday, fanning a career-high 14 in the Toronto Blue Jays’ 6-4 victory.
The unbelievably awesome right-hander, hunting down his second AL Cy Young Award, earned his big league-best ninth win for his second complete game of the season. He allowed four runs with no walks and seven hits in his sixth straight decision, lowering his ERA to 2.77. Awesome.
