Reflective, Reactionary and Revolutionary Friday

Reflective, Reactionary and Revolutionary Friday

Here’s a couple little pieces that offer some reflection on the Browns’ recent past, but also are relevant for the team heading into 2009 and beyond. So, let’s take a look at some different aspects of power in Berea before we celebrate America’s independence by buying hundreds of dollars worth of Chinese made fireworks. Of course, I’m not referring to economic independence. Emerging economic superpower? Whatever, China. Not if we’re broke.

And speaking of broken (and lame transitions), the great folks at TheOBR.com, via Sports Radio Interviews.com have found the first full-length interview given by former Browns coach and alleged “good guy” Romeo Crennel.

Sit Down Juan Pierre, Manny's Back

Sit Down Juan Pierre, Manny’s Back

All you folks who have been hanging on for dear life to Manny Ramirez, waiting patiently for his return to your fantasy roster while the rest of your outfield pretty much sucked? You can breathe easy once again.

Those 50 games he was forced to sit out after testing positive for stupidity are finally over, as he’ll be back in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup Friday against Chad Gaudin and the San Diego Padres. Manny is batting a career .455 (5-for-11) against the right-hander, with two homers, three RBI and 2 walks. Not bad.

When authors attack

When authors attack

I’ve written four books, and all of them have received some very good reviews and some fairly terrible reviews.

It comes with the territory of subjectiveness. This isn’t mathematics, where an equation either works or doesn’t. Reactions to writing are 100-percent opinion. Some love, some hate, some are indifferent. It is what it is.

That said, I hate—hate—hostile reviews.

Fault USC for the negative perception of the Big 10

Fault USC for the negative perception of the Big 10

The Big 10 has taken its share of knocks on the field and in the press. Over the last six seasons, the conference has developed a reputation for being slow, overrated, and lacking in talent. But these are merely assumptions, and far from truth, when you consider their overall record against BCS conferences and the number of selections in the NFL draft. But they still take a media clubbing, and continue to be the butt of jokes told by your average college football conversationalists.

Ohio State has been the league’s proud program, and two embarrassing losses in consecutive BCS championship games offered no assistance in shedding stereotypes.

Losing Knuble Hurts, But Flyers Should Persevere

Losing Knuble Hurts, But Flyers Should Persevere

Yesterday, Mike Knuble signed a two-year contract with the Washington Capitals worth $2.8 million per season, opting not to resign with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers wanted him back and he wanted to come back, but the two couldn’t reach an agreement. Knuble wanted a multi-year deal at what he made last season, the team wanted him to accept a one-year bonus pact; although they did offer a multi-year deal worth less money.

Baltimore Orioles: The Opportunity of a Lifetime for Robert Andino

The dream began for shortstop Robert Andino on August 4, 2002, as he signed with the Florida Marlins and kicked off his minor league career.

He was expected to be the future at the middle-infield position, his stellar defense and slap-hitting style carrying him to the pros.

Hey, Trevor Ariza...How does my ARTEST taste?

Hey, Trevor Ariza…How does my ARTEST taste?

As a Lakers fan, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Trevor Ariza for two reasons: 1) He played a significant role in the Lakers winning the NBA Championship, and 2) He just played an even more significant role in better positioning the Lakers for a repeat in 2010.

For all intents and puposes, Ariza just traded himself to Houston in exchange for Ron Artest. Okay, so it was twin free agent moves and not a trade, but it worked out the same way. Ariza balked at the $5.6 Mil/year mid-level exception offer to stay with the Lakers (Then, “Mr Insulted” agrees to sign with the Rockets for $5.8 Mil/year…HUH???).
